About

Australind Family History Society (Inc) began in the 1980’s, when our founder Wendy Maslin became interested in researching her family origins.

Wendy realized that the only place this could be achieved was at the Western Australian Genealogical Society (WAGS) situated in Perth, so gathered a few friends together who desired to research their origins  and formed a group at Australind.

From this small beginning and through some tough times we have grown and are an Affilliated Member of WAGS.

We are situated in the Harvey Shire buildings adjacent to Australind Shopping Centre on the corner of Old Coast Road and Paris Road, Australind – click on our Contact Us Page for our opening hours & map. The bus route nearest our library runs along Mulgara Street. There is plenty of car parking in the area.

Our library is a bright and happy place to visit, and our volunteers are always friendly and ready to assist you. These volunteers have learnt their skills  from  years researching  their own family history, and because they have had so much enjoyment from it, they are willing to assist anyone who would like to begin.

You may like to have one-on-one assistance when you begin, and from then on continue to receive help, or carry on by yourself. Whichever way you choose, our volunteers will accommodate you.

Our library facilities hold a great deal for treasure hunters!  We have over 2,000 books, thousands of micro-fiche, as well as micro-films, and data CDs – see our Resources link.

There are 10 computers all connected to the Internet.  New sites are becoming available almost daily, these are  generally added to our computers.  We subscribe to  “pay for” sites, such as Ancestry.com & Find My Past while others are free.

It can be a costly exercise paying for each of these sites, whereas our library charges only $2.00 per hour to use them on our computers.

Our advice is to visit us before you begin paying for sites on your home computer, then you will be able to decide which sites are best for your research.

For our members & visitors we have a kitchen area for lunches and tea or coffee.
